Hello,
My name is Sim, I am a graphic designer with eight years of professional experience.
As a creative, I’ve developed many key skills throughout my work in the tech, real estate, and film industries. These skills include my ability to meet tight deadlines under pressure, work and collaborate in a team environment, and lead projects using critical design thinking. These skills have further been enhanced and developed while working on projects for companies like Think Research, Bosley Real Estate and Black and Indigenous People of Colour in TV & Film and freelancing.
Working at Think Research as their only in-house Graphic Designer for the last three and half years and juggling freelance graphic design opportunities, I have learned to value inclusivity, collaboration and accountability. I believe that team efforts are a key aspect of any industry with a good working culture. Through my education, work knowledge and skills combined with my passion for creative advertising and graphic design, I work hard to produce the best creative work to fuel my ambition.
In my next role, I am looking for a new challenge that can help me broaden my design and managerial skills. I believe this change of industry can help me strive to be a stronger leader and designer. With my skill set and experience, I am ready to take on new challenges and grow. Founder and Principal Designer
Simbiotic Media, Nov 2013 to current
I founded Simbiotic Media in 2013 and launched my vision while I was a student at Ryerson University for family, friends, and clients. While working hard to jumpstart my freelance business, I worked at Starbucks coffee and was given a freelance design opportunity by a customer who happened to be the owner of Bullseye Axe Throwing, now a popular Newmarket company. He encouraged me to start freelancing more and hired me to design the grand opening flyer for his business. This experience opened my eyes to how important it is to help others to push and strive for their goals. My vision since that positive experience is to create innovative graphic design that will help my clients build stronger relationships with their clients.

Senior Graphic Designer

I held a large degree of responsibility for the company’s brand and visual design as the only in-house Graphic Designer on a small marketing team. During my four-year tenure, I led over 300 creative projects. I’m proudest of the visual corporate rebrand that I led with limited resources. Since the visual rebrand of the company, our Google Ads traffic and social media engagement dramatically increased. I also took part in launching creative for eight products in four markets (North America, UK, UAE and Saudi Arabia). In December of 2020 the company went public on the TSX Venture Exchange with a $180M valuation.

Photographer and Graphic Designer
Stage185, Sept 2017 to -May 2018
I effectively captured images of some of Canada’s top Drag Queen performers, some of whom appeared on Canada's Rupaul's Drag Race. I also edited the photos to be used for the night club’s social media and promotional material. I launched the company’s first Instagram account and established 300 authentic followers in two days.
Graphic Designer and Marketing Coordinator
Bosley Real Estate, April 2016 to Oct 2017
I developed and produced creative material in printed and electronic format for Real Estate Agents in Toronto and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Creative materials included, flyers, brochures, social media tiles and property feature sheets.
My feature sheet designs were popular and in demand by agents as I was able to creatively and professionally layout information, assisting agents in selling million-dollar properties. I also worked directly with the Marketing Manager and the Bosley family to create ads in Toronto Life Magazine, and created newspaper ads for The Globe & Mail that were produced every week.

Two children from Boston, MA reached out to me through my website and asked me to come on board as their Graphic Designer to help raise awareness about the endangered Blue Footed Booby species. I designed their logo and packaging. So far they have sold over 20,000 pairs and raised over $150,000!
